Camp Life:

Camp Check-in

- each attendee to check-in within the first hour of arriving; sign disclaimer form, meet sewadar team, intro class

- get assigned building, room and building-lead sewadar; review Camp Attendee Responsibilities List

Camp Attendee Responsibilities List

- Keep humble, positive attitude, mutual respect and non-judgment; actions should be in gurmat and in chardi kala

- Attend morning and evening diwans in full bana or respectable clothing; workshops are optional

- Clean up/tidy room and bathroom area after Amritvela Diwan (before rest and breakfast), help cleanup after Langar

- Review camp map, review Camper Item Checklist

- If you see any issues, discuss with individual building sewadar for resolution immediately

- Ask questions, take notes, participate and help out where you see the need

- Volunteer for any sewa you are interested in (e.g. hukamnama, simran, nitnem, langar, degh, recreation, etc)

- Limit your smart phone time, take paper notes if needed, and interact with Sangat and Environment around you

Bear season and nut free facility, no cell phone service, limited WiFi

- bears are waking up from hibernation and are hungry; they can smell food and have been seen in camp

- NO FOOD allowed out of langar hall, for risk of attracting bears; will be confiscated on sight

- Sangat may store food in labeled clear plastic containers/baggies in langar hall for specific foods they need, or for picky eaters/kids, etc. (Any specific requests can be given in person or via google form).

- NUT FREE facility - no nuts on site, will be confiscated on sight

- all walks must be accompanied by lead sewadar to take headcount and ensure safety

- do not expect cell phone service; WiFi will be very limited.

Any area of the camp site which is gender-designated i.e. female/male only; should be followed. Males must not enter female only areas and vice-versa. Any offensive, abusive behaviour towards anyone including fellow campers, volunteers or site personnel will not be tolerated and such campers will be expelled from GM Smagam. No pets/animals are allowed. Mobile phones must be switched off during certain camp activities. Any deliberate damage to any equipment, security systems, health & safety precautionary equipment etc. will lead to immediate expulsion from GM Smagam and liability for payment for any damage caused for the offender. GM Smagam will not be liable for any missing items; we therefore advise that you bring a lockable suitcase.No persons may enter or leave the camp site without prior permission for safety reasons. The use of aerosol deodorants is prohibited as they can set off fire/smoke detectors. If there is a false alarm due to disobeying this, the responsible party will be fined by the camp site.The camp site may have their own rules and regulations which you must follow also, this will be made clear to you on your first day of GM Smagam. GM Smagam reserves the right to change the schedule of events as reasonably necessary. GM Smagam reserves the right to dismiss any participant for improper dress, conduct, language, attitude or behavior which, in the judgment of the disciplinary committee, is deemed to be detrimental to other participants' experience and/or the success of the camp. GM Smagam will not accept any liability for loss, damage or injury to the property or personal belongings of the camper. Campers will be responsible to the owners of the venue for any cost of damage to the premises, equipment or related property. Campers may be liable to GM Smagam for any deliberate damage to property that is supplied to them for use at GM Smagam. Every effort will be made to ensure accidents do not occur, however GM Smagam cannot accept liability for any injury incurred as a result of such an accident. Any concerned person is advised to take out adequate personal insurance for the duration of the GM Smagam. Any breach of the guidelines set above can result in immediate expulsion from the camp site/GM Smagam. Campers in breach of the above guidelines will have to make their own travel arrangements to get back home on the same day and cover these costs themselves. I hereby, for myself and on behalf of my child(ren) (if applicable), agree to hold harmless and fully indemnify GM Smagam Management, Volunteers and Staff, on the account that all normal safety procedures have been taken on behalf of GM Smagam Management, Volunteers and Staff, from any and all liability for any personal injury or injury to myself or any third-party child resulting from my child’s actions/participation in the GM Smagam.
